LETīS DEFEND FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION

to site in spanish

Let's Defend Freedom of Association ! is an open space created since 1998 by the Americas Trade Union Movement formed by the ICFTU, Regional Organisations and International Professional Trade Secretariats, in the light of the hard situation the region is going through on the exercise of Freedom of Association, even though the abolition of the De Facto Regimes which during decades surrendered authoritarianism, the violation of men and women human rights on various countries, the poorly achievement reached on the confiability and transparency on the electoral processes and the fact that most of the countries have ratified de ILO Conventions No. 87 and 98 approved 50 years ago referred on the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work adopted by the ILO state members on the International Labour Conference-June,1998.

Legal restrictions, violation on the practice of Freedom on Association on one side, hinder the strengthening of the Trade Union Organisations on their social role and on the democratic lyfe of Nations. And on the other hand, they constitute one of the greater obstacles in the process of social justice on the Americas.

The need to improve and promote the education on human and labour rights awareness on men and women workers is the principal goal of this web site.

We hope this web site contributes to:

  • Give a better follow-up on complaints (by infringement, under Art.26) on Freedom of Association that have been presented by national and international trade union organisations;

  • To move national and international solidarity with those infractors on Freedom of Association;

  • Achieve a better level of fulfillment on the reccomendations and observations decided by the ILO Regular Supervisory Bodies given by the national authorities.

  • Support the Trade Union activities on Freedom of Association through the information, materials and tools which can be found in this web site.
